MRRN Air Ways — an airship rises from the clouds like a mountain peak.

MRRN Air Ways

Higher. Slower. Further.

Mürren is not ideally placed for aviation. It is, however, exceptionally well placed in the sky.

MRRN Air Ways connects the village with places further away than you might think. We travel by airship. Slowly enough to see something along the way. High enough for a few things below to seem a little smaller.

The story of MRRN Air Ways begins with a geographical misunderstanding.

Mürren sits 1,650 metres above sea level, on a terrace overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The village has no road traffic, no harbour of any nautical significance and, despite repeated checks, not enough level ground for a runway.

The problem turned out to be solvable.

Airships need very little ground. They do, however, need a great deal of sky.

There is plenty of that here.

And so MRRN Air Ways began scheduled services with a small fleet of Alpine airships, connecting Mürren with selected destinations across Europe and beyond. Zurich is close. Paris a little further. London occasionally gets caught in a headwind. New York is usually tomorrow.

THE WHALE

At the heart of the fleet is THE WHALE, the flagship of MRRN Air Ways.

A classic airship with a pale envelope, a red tail fin and the Swiss cross. On its side is the whale that has made itself at home in Mürren — and taken remarkably well to the move from water to air.

Cruising speed is moderate.
By design.

At MRRN Air Ways, speed is not an end in itself. If you are heading for Mürren, you may as well take a little longer to arrive. Mountains change with the light. Clouds reveal valleys, then close them again. Distances begin to feel like distances once more.

There is little reason to hurry on board.

The timetable takes its cue from the route, the wind, the weather and sound judgement.

ON TIME happens. So does WEATHER PERMITTING.

The operation rests on a simple idea of aviation: you can go further without making everything faster.
